1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Scroll Control - Block Reels (referred to as "Scroll Control", "we", "our", or "the app") handles information when you use our application.

Scroll Control is an independent digital wellbeing and screen time management tool designed to help users curb mindless short video scrolling and build healthy digital habits. We believe in absolute privacy: Scroll Control operates 100% locally on your device, requires no user account, and does not sell or transmit your personal data.

3. AccessibilityService API Disclosure

Scroll Control requires the use of the Android AccessibilityService API to perform its primary core function: assisting you with mindful screen time management and short-video scrolling awareness.

Why We Need It:
To power two core features: the reel scroll counter (counting how many reels you scroll through) and mindful screen time interventions (displaying a conscious pause reminder when you reach your daily limit). On Android, AccessibilityService is the only supported system mechanism to detect when short-video feeds are actively playing within supported apps.

Supported Apps Only:
Our detection only runs for a specific, hardcoded list of short-form video apps (specifically Instagram Reels: com.instagram.android). For any app outside this list, Scroll Control completely ignores all accessibility events and does not process them.

What Accessibility DOES NOT do:

  • No Banking or Payment App Monitoring: It NEVER runs for banking apps, payment apps, UPI apps (such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), digital wallets, or any financial services.
  • No Personal Messages or Content: It NEVER reads, accesses, logs, or transmits personal messages, chats, DMs, captions, photos, or story content.
  • No Keystrokes or Passwords: It NEVER captures keystrokes, passwords, OTPs, PINs, or authentication credentials.
  • No Screen Recording: It does NOT take screenshots, record video of your screen, or capture images.
  • No System Changes: It NEVER alters device settings, disables buttons, or prevents the user from uninstalling the app.
  • 100% On-Device: All detection happens transiently in real time and stays entirely on your phone. No raw accessibility data ever leaves your device.

You Are in Complete Control:
You can revoke accessibility permission at any time by going to Android Settings > Accessibility > Scroll Control and toggling the switch OFF.

4. Overlay & Foreground Service Permissions

To provide continuous real-time mindfulness without disrupting other phone operations, Scroll Control utilizes:

  • Display Over Other Apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW): Allows the app to show a minimal, non-intrusive floating counter badge and a respectful accountability pause screen over Instagram when your self-imposed scroll limit is reached. It does not record screen content and can be repositioned or disabled anytime.
  • Foreground Service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE): Keeps the floating overlay counter responsive while short videos are open, accompanied by a visible persistent notification in your system tray so you are always aware and in control.

5. Information Stored Locally on Your Device

Scroll Control operates completely on-device. The only data generated and retained includes:

  • Your daily and weekly reel scroll counts
  • Your self-selected daily scroll limit (e.g., 20, 50, 100 reels)
  • Your selected accountability companion persona (e.g., Self, Sibling, Friend, Parent)
  • Basic on-device usage streaks and timestamps for today's resets

All of this data is stored solely in local SQLite/Room database storage and local preferences within the app's private sandbox. It is never uploaded to any remote server or third party.

6. Third-Party Services, Tracking, and Advertising

Scroll Control is dedicated to privacy and simplicity:

  • No Ads: The app does not integrate any third-party ad networks or advertising SDKs.
  • No Cross-App Tracking: The app does not access your Google Advertising ID (GAID) or track your activities across other apps.
  • No Analytics SDKs: We do not embed third-party analytics or telemetry trackers.
  • No Sale of Data: We do not sell, rent, monetize, or disclose any user data to any commercial entities.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Because all data is stored exclusively on your device, you have complete and immediate control over it at all times:

  • You can clear all stored counts, preferences, and logs anytime by going to Settings > Apps > Scroll Control > Clear Storage / Clear Data on your Android device.
  • Uninstalling the app instantly and permanently removes all stored data from your device.

8. Security

The security of your device is protected by the native Android operating system application sandboxing. No remote servers are used, and no external network transmission of your usage data takes place.

9. Children's Privacy

Scroll Control is intended for general audiences aged 13 and above who wish to manage their screen time and digital habits. We do not knowingly collect or solicit any personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may periodically update this Privacy Policy if application features or platform policy requirements evolve. The most up-to-date version will always remain accessible at the public privacy policy URL submitted to the Google Play Store.
